The Government of Punjab has formally launched a comprehensive Rs23 billion socio-economic and security initiative aimed at the permanent transformation of the province's riverine (Katcha) regions. During an official assessment of the frontline outposts in Rahim Yar Khan, the provincial administration announced the successful restoration of state authority in areas previously considered inaccessible. This strategic investment represents a shift toward structured intervention, seeking to integrate these marginalized territories into the provincial development framework through sustained institutional presence.
The multi-dimensional package prioritizes critical infrastructure and essential public services to ensure long term regional stability. Key components of the plan include the construction of a 140 kilometer protective embankment and an expansive network of paved roads designed to facilitate both law enforcement mobility and local commerce. To address systemic gaps in social welfare, the government has mandated the establishment of 20 schools and 10 basic health units. Additionally, the plan includes the provision of 100 high tech tractors and the installation of solar-powered tube wells to bolster the local agricultural sector and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Regarding regional security, the provincial government has unveiled specialized measures to fortify the riverine belt against criminal activity. The plan features the construction of 13 permanent, technologically advanced police stations and the induction of 2,000 personnel specifically assigned to the Katcha region. These units will be supported by modern surveillance assets, including night-vision technology and aerial drones. By synchronizing rigorous security protocols with humanitarian development, the administration intends to transition the riverine belt into a stabilized corridor of economic activity.
